Well it was back to the old redhat version 5.2 book before I got the
conformation I was looking for. In Linux Undercover rev 1.0 1998 on page
269 is says "fsck must be run on unmounted filesystems, never on mounted
filesystems" and my friends that means that it must be done with all
partitions unmounted. which means you have to visit your box and hook up a
terminal (Raq) and reboot. I'm not going to explain the rest because I have
still never done it on a raq2 but my hosting company (9net) knew exactly
what I wanted and took care of it in no time. I was hoping to find a way to
adjust the bootup mode of fsck but on later reflection I decided to just
make the call and do it right with no games.
