Which sadly, is still not widely supported in mail clients to my
knowledge. I hate to say this, but the only GUI MUA I know of
that supports SMTP authentication is MS Outlook & Outlook Express.
Eudora 4.3 allows SMTP Auth. It has a free "ad" mode as well as a pay-for
non-ad mode "Pro" mode.
Netscape Communicator supported SMTP authentication since 4.0.
Between Netscape, Eudora and *ugh* Outlook, they cover the majority of
installed GUI MUAs ... and are available on just about any platform you'd
need one for. There's a page dedicated to showing users how to enable SMTP
Auth for all 3 clients at:
http://www.handynetworks.com/html/smtp_authentication.html
It's fairly new but is a much smoother solution than POPb4SMTP ... it will
propogate, it just takes time.
