Actually, it was Cobalt support who told us to make the change. :)
That page is pretty good though. Good reference. Didn't solve my problem,
but lots of information.

Did you take a look at the Apache Throttle module? I don't have any
specific experience with said module, but it sounds like something along the
lines of what you're looking for. Didn't Cobalt compile this into their
Apache binary?

At "one" what? You can put all of the domains you want on a single IP. The
steps you follow are the same as putting them on their own unique IPs.

If there is a problem in the GUI (I don't know) you can certainly edit
/etc/virtusertable and /etc/sendmail.cw using a text editor to get the
functionality you desire.

Edward,
What I do is setup the domain in the DNS on my RaQ without moving it. Then I
set my PC to point to the RaQ's domain at the top of the domain search list.
This does it for me. Works fine, lasts a long time.

Hello,
I have this little problem a client of ours currently has a website and
they are migrating the site to a RaQ3 however we are using HTTP/1.1 on this
server - and the client would like to test the site before pointing their
domain, Any good ideas.
I have used test host names before but this tends to complicate matters when
using fronpage extensions.

Subject: [cobalt-users] Wish List...
Reply-To: cobalt-users@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
This is really less of a wish list, but after going through
the web demo for the RaQ4, I can't help but wonder -- just
when is Cobalt going to incorporate a database design tool
into the UI?
In the RaQ3, PostgreSQL was shipped, my understanding that
a product from InterBase is shipped with the RaQ4, now
while as a geek I mourn the departure from PostgreSQL to
a closed source application and thus wonder what the
reasoning was for the switch...
But as someone in the business and trying to survive, I can
see some of the logic to using a multitude of closed source
applications such as FrontPage, Chillisoft ASP, etc as the
basic business ideal seems to make linux application servers
available en masse to the world of PHBs at large ;-).
Of course, I'm typing this with my tounge in cheek.
I don't think that any of Cobalt's products have been
marketed to the power linux user, but rather have been
working largely off the hype surrounding linux and
taking advantage of the fact that there is an interest
in the OS, and that a large number of the people who
are expressing an interest in the system for commercial
purposes are not likely to be very technical, so to make
it simple enough for anyone to be able to use it with
tools they should already know...
So I'm going to go ahead and voice some things I wouldn't
mind seeing included in the UI, and that should stay within
the range of appealing to the target market without going
over their heads in technical aspects.
1) Perhaps a lower cost on SSL support since the RSA
patents which require the licensing fee be paid
expire next month. Okay, I know that's more of a
dream than anything to actually expect but heh.
2) The database design tool integrated into the web UI.
With PostgreSQL or MySQL for instance, the average
manager who might be thrilled with the concept of
having a free database platform, but chances are
he won't understand how to operate it from the
command line tools. He might even understand
how to use FrontPage or similiar tools to work
with the ASP and ODBC tools to work from there,
but actually setting up the DB, unless it's tied
into something along the lines of pgAdmin (which
let's face it, you have to go hunt for anyway..)
then the onboard database may be left in the wind.
3) Some workaround for the NGROUPS_MAX 32 or a change
in the scheme from what was used in the RaQ2 for
admin -- Or has this been resolved somewhere?
4) With the advent of the RaQ2s and above that have a
SCSI adapter, it might be nice to incorporate a way
to have a web UI for 'attaching storage' for external
drives or even tape libraries -- and in the event of
tape drives, autoloaders, or libraries -- further have
support to back up to this media in the UI rather than
assume all backups either go through HTTP, Legato, or
Arkiera. Course, at the idea of an autoloader or backup
you could essentially spin off a new product under
the NASRAQ category as a backup server.
That's really about it, the other items are things easily added
by a techie -- but no easily added by a distributor such as ssh.

I have scanned the archives but haven't been able to find a clear answer on
how to enable SSI on a Raq 3.
What is the minimum I need to do? Is enabling it in the admin. GUI for a
virtual site enough? Or, do I need to make a bunch of changes to
http.conf, etc. before I can enable it from the admin. GUI.

Well, it is a switch, but InterBase is not a closed source application.
It is under a Mozilla style Open Source compliant license.

I would like to see SSL for the RaQ2 after the patent expires. Right
now, it is a pain in the butt to do SSL on a RaQ2 since it does not
integrate with the web UI or normal web server.
I'd be tempted to back port the SSL stuff from the RaQ3, but that would
probably void my warrenty. :-(

absolutely no problems and I use it quite a bit with Sendmail and Apache. It
appears to me to be safe and it gets to stay, but make sure you take the
proper precautions if you decide to load this on your own production
machine!
YMMV.

Well, probably because the only web based one that is any good (that I am
awaer of) is phpMyAdmin. Which is MySQL specific.

Interbase is open source. It has been released under the Interbase Public
License if I am not mistaken, which is essentially cut and paste from the
Mozilla Public License.
I think I, too, asked the question of why they went with Interbase--by all
the accounts I have found it is inferior to MySQL and PostgreSQL. Support
is lacking as well.

With MyODBC you can use any ODBC compliant client to access MySQL at least.
PostgreSQL has similar capabilities, I believe. So they can use Access or
whatever. I have a unique experience in that I learned SQL command line
before I learned any other database. I tried to use Access a couple months
back--that was a real bass ackwards application. I utterly hated the GUI,
as it overcomplicated everything. Anyway, my point is that sometimes it
important for the user to learn how to set something up on their own rather
than have a 'turn-key' solution.
I'm not sure if it is a good idea to have a bunch of so-called database
developers making these 'secure' web applications if they don't have the
knowledge to do so. I guess I call it "knowing enough to be dangerous".
They obviously won't be aware of technical and security issues, etc., and
that can be a problem.
I have the opinion that Cobalt is actually marketing their products in an
irresponsible manner. Running a webserver can be done by someone with a
minimum amount of experience. Running a Web Hosting company, ISP, ASP or
even just a full-on website requires a LOT of experience. To do it right,
anyway. But a lot of the Cobalt marketing (and especially the mail-order
companies speils) makes you think that *anyone* can do it and that its a
piece of cake. Then someone buys it, trys it and comes on this list saying
its a POS because they can't figure out DNS.
I guess I am saying that I think a barrier of entry can be a good thing
sometimes.

There's a warranty on these things? *grin* Most of my RaQs and
RaQ2s are well beyond the initial warranty that came with the
device. Then again, I honestly can't think of anything I
actually need the warranty for besides parts replacement.
When it deals with software, I think any competent linux
administrator with a working knowledge of Perl is going
to be able to handle more problems than you would get
resolved calling technical support.

No idea. You haven't told us how you are connected to the internet
(modem? leased line? ISDN? is there a router?) what these downloads
actually are (FTP? HTTP? Email?) or how a Cobalt appliance fits in
to the picture.

What product are you using?
If you are using a Raq2 than I assume you want to know who is downloading
*from* your Raq2. This you will need to check your logs.
If you are using a Qube2 I assume you want to know who is pulling the
traffic through your Qube2/internet connection. For this you either get
fancy with sniffing packets (I believe tcpdump comes with the Qubes) or get
a firewall/caching solution they lets you monitor this.
If you are using a CacheRaq, you just need to take a look the admin
interface to find out who is abusing and then cut them off.
If you are using none of them, you'll need to find a new mailing list, a
consultant, and a caching/firewalling solution.
Good luck!

Well said.
