[cobalt-users] Serial Console on RaQ3

While my normal access to the RaQ is via the Ethernet, I'm trying to use
a laptop-terminal emulation set for 9600,n,8 on the Serial Console port 1.
I've patched the inittab file for 9600n8 but the only legible text I get on 
the
terminal is the :
	Cobalt Linux Release 5.0 .....   message
	... and the login: prompt.

	After I enter admin as the ID,  I get echo but no other response.
On Re-Boot, I get :
	Switching to run level .. followed by the same garbage i see on turnup.
It appears that the port is being served by 2 sets of different parameters.
How do I get the other one in sync/
