RE: [cobalt-users] Outlook Express

> How can you acces your POP accounts through Microsoft Outllok Express?

Hehe..Funny replies aside, let me give this one a shot:

In Tools, create a new Account. (Select Accounts, select 'Add', and then
select the type 'Mail')

Enter the Screen Name for the account. (Example: John Smith)

Next, enter the email address you've given the User on your Cobalt server.
(Example: pookie@xxxxxxxx )

Next, enter the mail server. If you use Pop3 (most common), you can leave
the drop down box to select the mail protocol as it is. If you use Imap or
another protocol, select it from the drop down box at the top.

In the text boxes below, enter your pop3 server name. (often it is simplest
to use mail.<yourdomain>.com or, if you don't have mail.<yourdomain>.com set
up in your DNS, use <yourdomain>.com or www.<yourdomain>.com ) Check your
DNS's MX record to see what the mail server should be for your user.

In the text boxes below, enter your SMTP server name. (Again,
mail.<yourdomain>.com or www.<yourdomain>.com or just <yourdomain>.com.)
Larger systems will sometimes have separate machines for smtp and pop3, but
for a small virtual site, it's common practice to create
mail.<yourdomain>.com for your users and point both SMTP and POP3 at that
machine.

Next, enter the account name on the server, and it's password. For example,
in the case of pookie@xxxxxxxx, you'd just enter 'pookie'.
Remember: This server login name is not necessarily the same as the person's
desired email address...! RaQs a little weird about unique names on the
server. For instance, you may have a user who wants to be
admin@<mydomain>.com, but you may already be admin on your server box. So,
you may give him a server name of admin2 on your box, and then an email
alias of admin for his account so he gets mail to admin@<mydomain>.com and
the outside world knows nothign of admin2...

Enter the password for the server account, and if you use secure password
authentication, check the check box. (Most places don't use this, so you
probably want to tell your user to keep the box blank.)

Hit next, and voila! All done.
