Hi G. Gundersen!
I'm having the exact same problems right now with mail recursion thing. My
problem still isn't solved, so you can take these suggestions with a grain
of salt. :)
Possible solutions:
1. Make sure mail.<yourdomain>.com is not using a CNAME record in the DNS to
point to the main domain <domain>.com (it sounds like you're using an A
record, though...)
2. Check with your secondary DNS provider to be sure that mail is pointing
at the right IP with an A name record too...
Someone just pointed out to me that on my secondary DNS, my MX record just
points to mail (not mail.dimar.org) and because of this, every email sent to
my domain gets sent back to the mailserver from which it originated...!
3. If you've recently moved your site to a new IP, check the WHOIS to see if
it's updated correctly yet. If it's pointing to an old IP, mail servers
trying to reach mail.<yourdomain>.com might be getting bad information. I'm
still waiting for my DNS changes to propogate from Network$olutions...! It's
been 3 days...well over the 2 days they say it will take.
I hope this helps...
-Dee (still fighting her own email server problems...)
