Before you get too far installing PHP 3.0.16 you may want to check if the
apps you want to install are compatible with PHP3. PHP4 was released
several months ago after several additional months in beta. Many popular
web apps are being written or rewritten in PHP4, some with backwards
compatibility with PHP3, some without it. I think Phorum works with PHP3,
but check the other message board programs I mentioned and anything else you
may want to implement. My fav. search engine / spidering tool, UdmSearch is
starting to implement PHP4 code and even has some code that only works with
a beta version (3.23.x) of MySQL to take advantage of the new (and very
cool) temporary tables feature.
