I think the pseudo-streaming has been supported since ver 2.0 of the QT plug-in which is now in 4.x. Anyway, if you don't have the plug-in, it won't work (either pseudo or real streaming..)

Mac do come with QT installed.., I'm not sure about PC's.. BTW, the last QT plug-in plays mp3's and flash movies..

The original post was about trying to install a QT streaming server, this is the reason I mentionned the fact that you do not necessarily need to do streaming on the server for QT because of that pseudo-streaming capability. I checked the url you mentionned for the Darwin Streaming Server, they are saying that the pseudo-streaming should be used for short movies that you need to replay a lot while real streaming should be used for long features, real time broadcast, live events, ... (one server is capable of providing 2000 simultaneous streams...if you've got the bandwith !!)
