Not on RedHat, either, Will, in my experience.

There are good reasons to go with hardware RAID:

Speed.  Redundancy. etc.

But software RAID will still run, and your server will still run, if one
drive fails.

Properly designed hardware RAID will continue to work if the primary HDC
goes down, but that's not as big an issue these days.

While lots of people (including me) are still prejudiced towards SCSI
drives, the fact is that many new hardware RAID implementations work
very well, and very quickly, as well, with the newest "ATA" drives.
