You probably created links to part of the filesystem _outside_ the chroot
tree. This isn't possible. It does work for a (site) admin, but every
other user is stuck in a chroot chail. This means that they can't get out
of their home directory (their home dir becomes /) and can't follow
symlinks pointing to other parts of the filesystem.
