You could save your site the downtime by not stopping until you are ready to
restart. In my experience, the server does not need to be stopped while changing
config files. Once it is running it doesn't look back at the files, it only uses
them at startup.

For the RAQ2, I have sent detailed instructions for adding a Thawte cert, but it
should not matter who's cert it is, since it is just a text file. My instructions
assume a startup password for the main site, so I don't make a password for the
additional virtual sites. Charles Nagy (I think) posted an idea that if you make
the virtual sites use the main sites' password it will start with passwords' for
all sites. The only thing I don't like about that is, if your customer leaves and
wants their key/cert you will need to give them their password which is also
yours. Yikes!

If you can't find my instructions in the archives and want them, email off-list
and I'll scrunge them up.
