RE: [cobalt-users] RAQ3 email problem - all inbound email bounces with errors

I had this same problem when I set up my sites. the solution was hard to
find , but simple in execution.

The www record HAS to be an A record , if you have it listed it as the host
name. I had moved all my sites over and they had the WWW as a CNAME for
themselves.

Subject: [cobalt-users] RAQ3 email problem - all inbound email bounces
with errors

I have had several domains hosted on my RAQ3 for several months.
It has been mostly 2ndary hosting, so I have never really messed with email
on it.
I have just begun to take on hosting domains for others.
So, I go and get things set up exactly like the domains that are hosted on
the RAQ1
in terms of DNS, etc. and much to my surprise,
I can't get the RAQ3 to accept email for any of these domains.

The mail bounces back to the sender with the error:
<<< 554 rewrite: excessive recursion (max 50), ruleset 3

So, I go and check with the DNS providers for the domains.
They say everything is fine.
I check the DNS settings for the ones that are using Register.com for DNS
services.
Everything looks fine.

So, I begin to hit the Cobalt "resources", and I come up with the following
solutions
all seemingly targeted at the RAQ2:

add user@xxxxxxxxxx instead of user to the email aliases.
Doesn't work (in fact the RAQ3 removes the @domain.com)

A bunch of DNS stuff about CNAME records and A records.
Not an option with register.com DNS services.
My regular DNS guys say everything is fine and standard with the others.

The COBALT response I found in the archives was to manually edit
the sendmail.cw file!
That was a RAQ2 response, and what they said to do already seems to be
there on my RAQ3.

So, the question is, how do I solve this problem on a RAQ3, especially when
using the DNS
services of register.com, etc., where I have no control over if it is a
CNAME record, or an A record, etc???

Thanks,
Brian
