There's the answer...

Use one of the hacks to get back into the box <smile>.

However, I'd also have to ask if Chad still has a working relationship
with the "installer" or if the "installer" has completely disappeared?
If the "installer" has completely disappeared, then the real answer must
be to rebuild the server from scratch.

If the "installer" is still talking to Chad, then perhaps a discussion
will determine whether the problem was accidental or intentionally
created.

My guess is that he's just made an unintelligent change; otherwise why
would he have told Chad he was doing it?

I don't break into systems for people. I just can't guarantee that I'd
ever be that certain that the person hiring me was really hiring me for
his own system, so I just don't do it.
