Has nothing at all to do with resources. Simply put, the SENDING mail
server will check first to see if the mail server with the highest
priority is accepting mail, and if so, it'll send the mail there. If
not, it'll try the mail with the next highest priority. If it runs out
of mail servers before delivering the mail, the mail server will,
depending on it's settings, queue the mail for later delivery.

IF the user's ISP is set to receive mail for the domain, then you could
create MX records for the ISPs receiving mail server.

However, you cannot do this with demon. I know, we've tried (we host
redirection for several demon customers).

Here's what we put into /etc/virtusertable to make it work for our
clients:

@domain.com         %1@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

where "domain.com" is the client's domain name, and the MX points to our
server, and where "subdomain" is the subdomain demon has assigned the
client.

Don't forget, when changing /etc/virtusertable that you must rehash it,
and restart Sendmail (instructions were posted by someone else earlier
today).
