i have now idea, but it could be a daemon that concerns software raid
(as raid devices under linux are called "md"-devices).

maybe they have taken rpms from the standard redhat 6.2, that comes
now with enhanced (?) raid support

no idea what that could do on the raq, though (software raid is difficult
to handle and sensible if not cleanly unmounted, one of my servers has
it and boots into single user mode after a crash, and requires a manual
fs check; bad if it was remote hosted)
