it`s a LINUX box !! not DOS, LINUX !!!

if you don`t even know what your os is, i recommend NOT changing anything.
what i recommend : shut down your pc, go to the next bookstore, and buy (for
example) "Learning RedHat Linux", O`Reilly.
(This is a good idea, because your new raq is based on redhat linux 6.0 ...)
if it is urgent, go to www.google.com and search for "dos to linux howto". it
should provide some basic shell commands (you seem to come from a quick and
dirty disk operating system :-)

no :-)
it would be "vi" (forget that first, try later) or, more -but not that much- similar to the
dos editor is "pico". the "^" in the command list means the "ctrl" key.
anyway, change nothing until you don`t know exactly what you`re doing; even if it
is any security related issue, (at least now) you are more dangerous for your raq as
any hacker.
when you have bought a linux book, take a linux distribution (redhat would be
a good idea, similar to your raq), an old computer (386 / 8 mb ram / 200 mb hdd
does well) and get a bit experienced before hacking your raq.
if you can`t find a distribution and want to begin tonight (i assume that :-), you can
try "mulinux" (search for that on google) and download the first floppy (you can install
it even on your windoze box, but when you are in mulinux installed under windoze,
DON`T touch the dos directory; it`s not a copy, it`s the original)
