H.P.,
I'm using FTPBACKUP to send to an anonymous incoming address. Although
you could easily FTP to a user account.
But, that means that your CRON would list that USERNAME and PASSWORD and
start the transfer each time and send that info in a somewhat unsecure manner.
I chose to send via anonymous FTP so my CRON does NOT show
a real account's USERNAME/PASSWORD.
You are right, it is important to note that I made the INCOMING ANONYMOUS
FTP DIRECTORY unreadable at the receiving site. (chmod 733 /ftp/incoming).
(some hosting companies are setup this way automatically).
Nope, it's not totally secure from crackers and it won't withstand a
nuclear attack. But my sites are not critical, not e-commerce sites, and I
feel good about my chances with this setup.
This method is comparable (security-wise) to the built in RAQ "Scheduled
File Backup". Except this system works :).
