ftp.cobalt.com

right, but works ok

normal redhat rpm, i`m unsure for *.pkg (cobalt) files

by cobalt itself no, but can be compiled/installed without problems;
telnet can be switched off

for what ? recommended is a local ssh client for using ssh and a ftp
client for ftp :-)
nevertheless, for more than basic use some linux knowledge is very
useful, so at least one good book, if you don`t already have one
some local tools (nslookup etc) can be useful for debugging/testing

it`s separated; each user has a mail and a web directory, but it`s the
same quota

you can limit bandwidth for each ip; for the rest use third party tools
for exceeding the disk quotas, i have read that the cobalt has some kind
of warning function, but i have never seen it... search the archive for
thhat

i would appreciate some beer :-)
btw: for choosing a model, you should prefer a model with two network
interfaces, useful for ha/mirroring or backup solutions; if you will use
a certain amount of cgi scripts, choose a raq3 (intel instead of mips)
