This is COMPLETELY WRONG. You can have your site on the same IP as the DNS server.
I have done this on RAQ1s and RAQ2s, and I'm pretty sure it's has ZERO to do with
the platform it's on.

It is certainly not true on the 4 machines I have used.

I don't think this is your problem. If you want us to help, send us the contents of
the following file that apply to the domain in question:
make a copy of /etc/named/records
cp etc/named/records /etc/named/recordsjoe
open records and copy out the entries for the domain in question
email them to the list so we can have a look.
