RE: [cobalt-users] Has anyone used Advanced Internet Technologies (AIT) as ISP?

Yes, I use AIT and I know them well. I'm paying $199 a month, not $99 so
check into that. Their normal charge is $299 for co-lo's but they offer
discounts for RaQ customers because they are only 1U. I've been in their
server room numerous times and currently there are 12 RaQs (give or take) on
the co-lo side.

As for support...well... I don't ask for any, nor do I really want any. I'm
not a Linux wizard nor am I ever remotely close. I just have been able to
recover from any mistake so far (knock on wood). About all AIT will do is
reboot your box for you manually but, I don't believe they do it properly or
as Cobalt recommends. As a co-lo facility, it's great. They have two
buildings, one is freaking huge and housings 100 employees (but they are
hiring up to 150 more) and the other building is a former bank which houses
all the servers. They are supposed to be the largest private web hosting
company in the world and by their tactics, I believe it.

Security is their specialty and I think they may overdue it. I'm former
military and currently a cop, so...here we go. They have bars on all doors
and windows and you have to be let in the building and escorted, as doors
are always locked. There is also a large fence around the facility with
concertina wire on top. Once in their server building, they have 3 cameras
at the front door plus a motion detector and a heat detector. The actual
server room door is key coded for access. Finally, all VPs are authorized to
carry firearms and I've seen them do so on occasion. The owner is really,
really and I mean really freakish about security. (you should hear what they
do to hackers...they get revenge)

If you have any more questions, just let me know.

Subject: [cobalt-users] Has anyone used Advanced Internet Technologies
(AIT) as ISP?

Hello, all.

Curious if anyone has any stories, good or bad, about Advanced Internet
Technologies in Fayetteville, NC. They seem to specialize in virtual
hosting and reseller accounts, but also offer colocation packages very
inexpensively ($99/mo if you supply a Raq, no setup fees, no bandwidth
throttling, all switched connections, and up to 75 gigs/month of
throughput. )

They have multiple T3 and OC3 connections to different backbones, so it
doesn't seem as though bandwidth clogging will be a problem.

I've been working with them as a reseller, and their support so far has
been excellent, but the colo thing is a completely different animal, and
they don't seem to have many colo customers.

I'm also open for any other colocation ISP suggestions... and have been
noting the suggestions people have made thus far.

Thanks!

Chip
