[cobalt-users] Hard lessons on Raq3i

This should be titled, "Kids, don't try this at home"!

It started out pretty well, really. Bought the Raq3i, set it up, put a few
domains on, life was good. Then I had a bit of a problem with the boneheads
at Network Solutions (long story, not worth recounting) that resulted in
them changing my IP address for my primary DNS server on the Cobalt. Things
quit working immediately, of course. I got that straightened out, after
destroying God knows what in the DNS settings trying to get it to work.
Smart move would have been to scream at NSI louder and not touch my DNS
settings.

Next, I thought I'd be some kind of Linux stud and run a Perl script that I
got out of my Perl Cookbook. Really bad move, it made the web server
immediately cease to function. Telnetted in to the box, determined that
httpd wouldn't start because there was an error in the httpd.conf file. No
problem, none of the domains were that critical, so I copied the
httpd.conf.master over the top of the old files and restarted the daemon.
Came right up! I figured I was, indeed, a Linux stud. Wrong! Now the damn
thing wants to bring up *my* web page for all the virtual domains on the
box. (mine is www.computechnv.com - example of a non-working one is
www.steamstore.com) Argh!! Removed all domains from GUI, deleted all DNS
entries, and then telnetted in and removed the leftover crap from
/home/sites. Added a couple back to test them. Still doesn't work. Something
is terribly wrong with the virtual hosting.

I'm hoping someone here can help me out. Feel free to jump in here and point
out my stupidity. I want to learn from this painful experience. But, just in
case, I ordered a recovery CD. Most of my painful lessons cost way more than
$99. ;^)

TIA,
