Hi,
I'm interested in this thread as well. I'll share my .02 as I've been trying
to come-up with a valid (reliable) backup solution for our RaQ3i system.
I had a disastrous experience last week while using the RaQ3's built-in backup
utility (e.g., it didn't work and failed miserably during restore). So I
checked the Cobalt web site and user archives on Arkeia and Legato to see what
else was available and being used. We basically just wanted to find a solution
that allows a similar backup as the built-in utility to allow a backup then a
download from the RaQ3 server to a local Windows based PC (nothing fancy).
The Cobalt web site states if your data under /home is less than 500megs then
you can safely use the built-in backup utility. The site suggests if you're
backing-up more than 500megs, you better go with Arkeia for a more robust and
reliable solution. -->

I contacted Arkeia last week and I actually spoke with their head engineer
this evening. He informed me Arkeia was no longer supporting the Windows
platform for the server portion (which is needed to backup the RaQ3 to a
Windows based machine) and that the Linux version for the RaQ's would be out
in Aug if we wanted to backup to another RaQ3 system.
So I just fired off correspondence to Legato to see what they have to offer in
regards to Networker 5 as a backup solution for the RaQ3. I'll post any info
they provide once I speak with their sales rep (hopefully) tomorrow. I'm also
hoping they'll set-me-up with a trial version so I can give it a spin over the
weekend as well.
What other reliable and easy to config backup solutions are people using to
backup RaQ3's to Windows based machines (or are you)? - I'm sure most admins
backup files to other networks/machines in-house.
