I don't know about this one, Zeffie. I realize you said "can be" and not
"is," but most of the time it's a question of the age-old saying... If you
have to ask whether you need a VAR, you probably do.
Someone who buys a Cobalt Qube, for example, and uses it only in standard
configurations touching nothing but the GUI, and who's lucky enough not to
run into any snags, has escaped the need for a VAR. Someone who's good
enough at the game (like Dom or Jeff or yourself) to not need further help,
or who is willing to slug it out by his clueless little self (like me) may
intelligently determine that he derives no value (or, in my case, no fun)
from a VAR. I don't have a Qube so it works... I have one so *I* can make it
work.
However, the vast majority of people, I think, *do* buy it so it works all
the time, and *don't* have the required expertise to fully support it (Qube,
RaQ, whatever) themselves. For these masses, a VAR is, most likely, a good
investment.
