Cobalt-announce is just that, an announce list.
Cobalt-security is pretty much an announce list.
users is for users
developers is for developers
Its already really easily broken down.
I can't remember the last time I solicited support on this list. But I help
at least 2-3 people a day out. I'm quite honestly not going to subscribe to
all the different lists just so I can help people out. Not worth the
effort.
The only reason I participate is so I can keep up to date on 'things'. I
don't even own any Cobalt gear or work for a company that does anymore. I
still administer/support a couple of clients that have Raq2's and Qube's and
develop solutions for them, but that is pretty much it. So if the list
becomes a hassle to participate, I'm just not going to participate anymore.

I'm not losing any sleep over it, I'm just trying to keep the list
streamlined. I think the people that add the most value, that is help the
most people, are the people that have a wide knowledge base on which to
provide help and support. Segmenting the lists essentially removes a person
who from your potential pool of people with answers, just because they don't
have a particular product.
I.e some of the most technically competent people on here are probably going
to be the Raq2/Raq3 users. And they probably know how to fix a lot of stuff
on a Qube, they just don't have an active interest in participating and
hence won't subscribe to the list, and hence you're question will go
unanswered. I don't have a problem, because, like I said, I don't really
solicit support from this list. Its just going to make it a lot harder for
people to get their answers.
I've installed, ran several Qube2's and even had a Qube2 at my Condo for
about 6 months while working on a project. I don't subscribe to the Qube2
list, because I'm not going to go out of my way. But I know a lot about the
QUbe and if you post to this list you'll get an answer if I am aware of it.
And incidentally, this list sucked like a year ago. That was because there
wasn't that many people subscribe to it. Now there are finally enough
people that it has become a useful resource, and you're advocating splitting
it up? Doesn't make much sense to me.
Like I said, I couldn't care less weather problems get solved, but if you
want my help its got to be a low-effort/no-effort situation.
