So you have two separate machines running DNS.  That's what "2 name
servers" implies.

Since I realize I'd never checked this, I decided to look up some
working nameserers on the internet.

Jatek Corp., where I used to work, has a name server ns01.jatek.com
which serves most of it's domains.  There's no reverse DNS set up for it
at all.  (They're probably pretty clueless, I'd guess.)

But the nameserver still works.

My "understanding" is that reverse DNS doesn't have to reverse the same
as the forward DNS; it only has to reverse to something.
