Dan, you can certainly accept mail for subdomains separately on any
RaQ.  Take for example, the example here:

> joesite22 and the alias joe@xxxxxxxxxx
> joesite23 and the alias joe@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

If the first domain is set up with "www" as the hostname and
"domain.com" as the domain, and the second is set up with "elle" as the
hostname and "domain.com" as the domain, yes, only one of them can
accept mail.

But if you set up the first one with "www" as the hostname and
"domain.com" as the domain, and the second with "www" as the hostname
and "elle.domain.com" as the domain, then you can certainly accept mail
for both.

True, they "look" the same, but in the first example the two share the
same domain and in the second example the domains are different. 
Domains can have any number of "dots" in them.
