<sigh> While this discussion is one of the demonstrations
why Craig's tired of dealing with the Lists, and while this is a point
that's been debated ad-nauseum since I've been on these Lists...

SIG's & Post moderation: As far as anything in concerned, you are
subject to the FAQ-o-Matic of the list in which you post. The owners, hosts
and moderators determine what's in that FAQ, including what they feel like
doing with any content posted and the handling of SIG's.

We haven't seen the CobaltFAQ (not to be confused with CobaltFacts
<Grin>)
for some time. If I recall, the SIG issue wasn't even in there. It spent more
time asking people to contribute vs. denegrate the list and that posters stop
quoting 5-page posts and then top-posting replies (which is mostly ignored, it
seems).

AFAIK, SIG's are up to the List owner to call. While we've debated here
several times, turning to flamewars, about what a SIG should be I've found the
general acceptable format to be 4 lines - 45 chars wide MAX. You are allowed
up to 6 lines, but only if the top and bottom lines are ---------- to separate
your content from the post and anything tagged on the bottom from the specific
list.

There are those here who want to see no restrictions on SIGs, there are
those who would love to see 2 lines and that's it. Personally, I stay with
the format above for all SIGs on all the Lists I participate in and sadly that's
a boatload between servers, OS'es, e-commerce and some personal Oldsmobile lists
we happen to host here.

On the content issue, you're using someone else's resources. As the
owner,
they're entitled to do whatever they please with your posts - good, bad or
indifferent. A good List should include a Privacy Policy, SIG requirements and
post handling in the FAQ and make that FAQ available at signup and at least
monhtly to the subscribed members. There's no changes, unless it's determined
by the list owner (& staff) that they feel something isn't kosher. I think this
is part of the problem with moving the lists, people are paranoid the 'editorial
rights' may be abused on the whole. Again, as a community we should be able to
contribute to the standards that go in the FAQ and live by what the final
version
states.

Zeffie, you are an invaluable contributor to these Lists and Cobalt
support
as a whole. But even I (personally) have to say the SIG looks like a garage
sale
and it's a bit too long. But, without a FAQ stating otherwise - it's kosher
as-is.
