May be there is a better solution?

Cluster the lists.

Fail-over achieved, EVERY one wanting to participate in maintaining them is
involved, no posting to multiple lists needed, centralized db, load
balancing.

There could be a additional lists for cobalt-like HW, general Unix info etc.
I have spent years administering everything except Unixes. This list(s)
could be a great promo for open source, which will absolutelly attractive to
the world.

Why argue who will be the owner? The community will be the owner, seniors
would be moderators. 

Thus we would be THE LIST. Let's use our own computer techniques:
centralized administration... (read above and add your imagination)

Hope this will not start another List War.
