Does anyone have any input on whether the difference between a regular P4 and Celeron at the same Mhz will make any difference for the following applications:1. SpamAssassin with Bayesian filtering used 2. Razor/Pyzor 3. AV suits (f-prot/ClamAV)
There is a significant difference in performance between a regular P4 and a Celeron.
Obviously their will be SOME differnce, but I'm curious as the difference in cost of the server is almost $300 for the Celeron to the P4 version (larger RAM and HD as well though).
The amount of RAM as well as disk I/O will have an impact on performance. I would go for more RAM instead of a faster CPU.
As these are going to be pass-through servers, I'd like the time spent on the server being cleaned/checked/de-spamified to be as small as possible, but the difference between $464 and $755 is a consideration.
The time spent for filtering depends on how you configure the above software and the MTA. I don't know how much mail your server is going to handle. The $464 server may be sufficient for your needs if you are not running a high volume server.
