[cobalt-users] Moving Cobalt Lists

There appears to be a vocal minority saying their lists should be the
alternate list to use.

I've got no problems with an alternate list, or in fact with many
alternate lists, though of course I won't be able to take the time to
read them all, especially if they have duplicated content, questions,
etc.

I've written several times today on this list, suggesting people should
join the CobaltFacts list, as only one example.

But what I see as the most reasonable way to go is to move THIS list
somewhere else, and that's where I've been devoting my time since I've
heard the announcement that the cobalt-lists were going away.

I'm a long-term veteran of lists; I've been on them since the late 70s.
I'm a long-term veteran of moving lists; I've been on lists that moved
with the original owner's blessing and help, and on lists that were
moved by the community after the original owner disappeared.

What happens is simple... one day the list is hosted at lists.cobalt.com
and you get your last email from the list at that address.

The next day you get a post from the list at the new address, and you
fix your filters, etc., as necessary, and continue to post. If you
maintain a personal archive, it's still there, and you can respond to
posts you got from the previous list.

If you want to look at the archives you can read where at the bottom of
every post/mailing from the new list address, and you can look there
for the old posts as well as the new.

What I find so hard to understand is that so many members of this list
are vocal and saying that they DON'T want this list to continue
elsewhere.

Do you want this list moved or not?

Moving it takes a lot of time. If you don't want the list moved, I can
forget about it, and save probably 120 hours or so between now and the
14th.

But I think the work is worth it; I don't want to see all the hard work
all of us, volunteers and professionals (and some of us who cross over
the line each and every day) alike, go away.

We've had some volunteer work done already, and more underway. We've
got a volunteered server ready to take on the load.

So again...

Do you want this list moved or not?
