I've installed spamassassin on a raq4 (after upgrading perl to 5.6.1 and not breaking GUI) for a particular user (not sitewide).  I've setup a .forward and .procmailrc for the user as the spamassassin install instructions specify.

When I send a test mail to the email address it bounces and I get the following:

X-Actual-Recipient: X-Unix; "|IFS=' ' && exec /usr/bin/procmail -f- || exit 75 #user"
Action: failed
Status: 5.7.1
Diagnostic-Code: X-Unix; 550 Unsafe for mailing to programs

I've not managed to find anything that leads to a solution to the problem.

You don't need the .forward file. Procmail is the default MDA on most Cobalts, so it's already in the delivery path. Just delete the .forward file (or rename it, in case I'm wrong) and you should be fine.
