Subject: xtr + php um 550 os
Greetings fellow blue boxers,
I'm having a real dilemma.
recently I purchase two XTR units.
And started hosting a few small sites.
I want to use a few PHP scripts like live helper and latest PHP nuke.
I ordered the RAQ 550 "upgrade" CD from
EBay. Hoping I could upgrade the OS and get a free php pkg.
But when I went to install it I find out that it seems as if its just
The 550 install CD not a special build with a special kernel.
When I install the CD it automatically installs a latest firmware then goes
on to
Do the install but on first reboot it gets to the point where it starts the
clock and
Reboots and reboots. If I select boot from Rom it will boot up then hang
here and there..
But if I reboot it a couple time eventually I can set the IP but the web
server wont start.
After messing with different boot options I got into the web interface and
installed the updates
But the system wouldn't reboot without going into a reboot loop.
I took out all the disks in the array and fdisk and did a format on them..
Then I tested installing 550 OS with just one disk and it works perfectly..
But I don't think I cant trust putting sites on a drive that isn't
mirrored..
I love the features in the 550 and would love to switch but more importantly
I need something
That works.
I don't have the money to upgrade both my cobalt's to the latest PHP version
I really need a pkg file or instructions on how to upgrade the version of
php or I am going to be stuck
I'm starting to think sun left these units in a state of disarray, and ran
like hell.
I was able to put the xtr os back and it installs perfectly.
I was going to try to purchase the pkg files on the net but there are only
two companies that offer pkg files
For php and both want 150 dollars per install. I am just learning how to do
this
I can't see paying 150 dollars every couple of months when I screw the
machines up and need to do a reinstall.
2 machines X 150 x 4 times a year = more money than im making (1200) per
year for the latest php.
That's nuts!!!
Please contact me if you're an xtr owner and you have a collection of pkgs
that might help
I would be glad to help you out in any way I can..
Also does anyone know a cobalt chat room?
The #cobalt irc channel is always locked
Thanks Paul
