We too had a lot of overload warnings and sendmail stoppages on our network
with the Raq's. We were running MailScanner and Spamassassin as well as
firewalls and trying to stop all the never ending spam and viruses.
We ended up pulling MailScanner and SpamAssassin of the servers and created
a Mailhub/Mail Gateway server that scans and detects the viruses and Spam,
it then forwards the cleansed mail over to the appropriate Raq server for
client pickup.
We have noticed a dramatic improvement on the Raq's by doing this. In fact
after about 2 - 3 weeks of monitoring the mail tagged as Spam we ended up
deleting at the gateway any high scoring spam, and stopped delivering
notices to our clients that mail was infected. The Raq's now are handing
just the mail that is supposed to be delivered and a little spam that the
user can easily tag with rules to delete.
