[cobalt-users] Custom OSRCD problems...

I followed the directions for the OSRCD posted by Bruce Timberlake and
obtained undesirable results.

I observed several problems when attempting to create and use the custom
OS restore CD.

1. The resulting CD renamed a few of the really long filename packages
to ".pk" instead of ".pkg". Here is the list of filenames in my
"bundles" folder:

2. When restoring the OS to a new hard drive I was disappointed to
discover that NONE of the packages were loaded onto the RaQ after the
restore process was complete. Was I supposed to boot to the OS restore
CD a second time after the initial reboot?

And finally,

3. After doing the restore I immediately restored a full backup of my
RaQ to the new hard drive and only about the first half or so of the
files restored correctly. The remaining files fell under the heading:
"The following files were not verified but may be partially restored".

Do you have to fully patch the OS before doing the data restore? I
would think restoring a full backup would reinstall all of the previous
patches. No?

To see the full list of what was restored and what wasn't take a look
at:

http://web.webguy.net/raq/badrestore.html

My RaQ is a RaQ 4i. Much to my surprise it already has the second drive
bracket, 2nd drive cable and power supply. I thought RaQ 4is weren't
supposed to have these goodies. Is it possible that I really have a RaQ
4r? And, if so, how do I tell?

Any ideas??

                       Thanks,
