Did you run

	find / -name "mysqladmin" -print

or

	locate mysqladmin

How did you install MySQL on the server - RPM? From source? That might give 
some clues as well...

Also, remember when you're su-ing to root, you should do

	su - root

to ensure your PATH is set properly.
