I think we are getting confused by the term "secondary MX"  This normally
refers to a DNS record where the 2nd MX entry is a lower priority than the
primary.  It accepts mail when the primary cannot be found.

In your case I think your are referring to your main mail server being a
SPAM and virus filter that scans the mail and than forwards the good email
to the "secondary mx"?

At any rate,  Dan was correct about mail being sent directly to it.  If your
secondary is on the internet and has a valid IP, they will find it.  Your
mail is probably coming directly through this box which has no protection on
it.
