No, my confusion couldn't get much worse. LOL. It comes from being a
JOAT-MON.  This stuff is like breathing air and walking for most of you but
for me it is like going to  a community ed class to learn French 1 night a
week for 3 weeks and then going to a conference in France - I know just
enough to recognize what language you are speaking.

But I think you all have put me on the right track.  I will consult my
Practical Unix manual and the man chmod again and perhaps submit a diagram
of my perceived solution for the list to critique. ;-)  I have to have the
problem solved by Friday.  Thanks.
