[cobalt-users] HELP NEEDED WILL PAY: is this a relaying denied issue???

Still having trouble understanding this <frown>...

I'm going to call Cobalt Tech Support, but what I really need is a good
knowledgeable answer today, for a client. I'm even willing to pay for
it.

Here's the scenario:

I've got a Cobalt RaQ2. It's set up to relay mail for the Host/Domain
<socalix.com>. I've got a site set up for <www.socalix.com>. I use my
RaQ2 to accept mail for my dialup ISP clients, and to send mail for them
to others. It works fine; my clients are able to send mail without a
problem.

However, I've got a client with a Cobalt RaQ3. It's set up to relay
mail for his domain name.

Here's how I test it: I set up a user for me at his domain; I'm
jblists@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I dial in through my regular dialup account, with my return address set
to jblists@xxxxxxxxxxxxx and try to send email to jblists@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

The mail ends up in the jblists mailbox set up on his system, the one
that's for jblists@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I dial in through my regular dialup account, and try to send email to
foobar@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

It doesn't get returned with a "no user" error, nor does it even get
relayed to nobaloney.net to try it. It just gets returned marked "550
no relaying".

Surely this behavior is different than the behavior on my RaQ2.

What does my customer have to do? Is he required to implement POP
before SMTP, as I think, or is there something else at fault here;
shouldn't he be able to set up the system to relay for anyone with a
from address from his domain?

(We're not talking about desirability of behavior here, we're talking
about how it works.)

I've STFM manuals till I'm blue in the face. The normally great
"sendmail" book is quite obtuse, it doesn't even mention the
FEATURE(relay_local_from) that the Sendmail site talks about.

The sendmail site doesn't explain how to implement it.

And the place I rent my RaQ2 from tells me they've not made any changes
to allow my clients to use my RaQ to send mail for my clients (other
than with router rules, which are NOT at issue here).

Any ideas?

Jeff
