RE: [cobalt-users] Physical Image on RaQ

Marc, Thanks for the info. One question....

In theory, if you were to make these image files
when your RaQ was brand spanking new, couldn't
you use those images and this procedure to do a
"factory new" restore on your machine (should
things to terribly awry) without having to
purchase and use the >$100 system restore CD
from Cobalt?

Hi,
	Just an information. If you want to restore your disk after an
"crash", here's a good solution.
First : backup the partition table ==> dd if=/dev/hda
of=/mnt/backup/partition.img bs=1024 count=1
Second : backup the first partition ==> dd if=/dev/hda1
of=/mnt/backup/part1.img
Third : backup the third partition ==> dd if=/dev/hda3
of=/mnt/backup/part3.img (not hda2 ==> swap)
Four : backup the fourth partition ==> dd if=/dev/hda4
of=/mnt/backup/part4.img

To restore :
1°)dd if=/mnt/backup/partition.img of=/dev/hda
2°)fdisk /dev/hda , then just type "w"
3°)dd if=/mnt/backup/part1.img of=/dev/hda1
4°)dd if=/mnt/backup/part1.img of=/dev/hda3
5°)dd if=/mnt/backup/part1.img of=/dev/hda4
6°)Don't forget to active /dev/hda1

Marc

P.S : don't forget that hard disk must have the same capacity.
By example :
	Raq3 128Mo ==> HDD = 13.2Go
	Raq3 256Mo ==> HDD = 15.2Go
	Raq3 512Mo ==> HDD = 20Go

I suppose this is as good a time as any to wonder why Cobalt has put
"traceroute" into a directory not in even "root"'s path? I mean it's
not like it's dangerous or something <wry grin>, is it?
