[cobalt-users] Slow telnet and reverse DNS?!?

Hi All,

I came up with the following from the Cobalt knowledgebase which describes
a problem we're having here, but I don't understand the answer - what
have reverse DNS lookups got to do with this !?!? Can anyone explain?

---
QuestionNum: 386
      Product: All
      Category TCP/IP
Creation Date: Fri Nov 20 00:00:00 1998 PST

      Question
When I go to telnet into my Cobalt server locally, the login comes
up really slow. Same slow response comes from the browser. But when I
telnet in from
another machine, outside of my network, everything comes up fine.
What is wrong?

      Response
On the workstation, try changing the primary DNS to another server.
The current DNS server may have problems doing a reverse lookup, and is
causing
      the slow responses.

Thanks & Regards,

SB
