Re: [cobalt-users] Setting up Email

At 01:54 PM 3/14/00 -0800, you wrote:

So the limitation is user names? So if somone on the RaQ already has
sales@... no one else of the 200 virtual domains can have a user named
sales? That sucks...

No, that's linux <wry grin>.

How can you possibly enforce security if two people can log onto the same machine with one user name? How would the machine know which user was logged on?

You're dealing, after all, with a computer here <wry grin, again>.

So to get around this... I would create a user called sales.xyz (xyz being
their domain name), and give it an alias of sales? But to FTP and to login
to pick up their mail, they would have to login with a user name of
sales.xyz...

It may just be a good practice to always name users... "username.domain" to
avoid any conflicts?

I presume you've already tried user names of length > 8 characters in all possible situations and know this is safe, right?

Have you for example figured out how you can tell whether "jeffrey.domain1 or jeffrey.domain2 owns a file from looking at the directory, right?

Not a good idea, unfortunately.

We use a number system. You log in to get your mail as VXG10234, but your mail is addressed to "you@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx".

Can you deal with it?

I hope so.
