You don't need a way around this. If you "accept email for domain"
domain1.generic.com, then the users of this virtual site will be able to
receive mails addresses to @generic.com. Obviously, you can't have this
activated for multiple virtual sites. So the users of domain2/3.generic.com
would have email addresses that look like this:
username1@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
username2@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
whereas users of the domain1.generic.com virtual site (where you "accept
email for domain") can receive emails addressed to username3@xxxxxxxxxxxx
