Re: [cobalt-users] Personal Nameserver Address

At 12:59 PM 3/11/00 +0000, you wrote:

Does anyone know if it possible to give a client personal nameservers on my RAQ?

I currently have ns0.myname.co.uk & ns1.myname.co.uk and have created A records so
ns0.hisname.co.uk & ns1.hisname.co.uk point to my nameservers.

This is fine for registering UK domains and works great, but I can't register any .com names as the registrars I have tried all come
back with "Invalid Nameservers"

Have you registered both "ns0.hisname.co.uk" and "ns1.hisname.co.uk" as nameservers? For .com, .net, and .org domains the nameservers themselves need to be registered as nameservers. For .com, .net, and .org domains registered through Network Solutions you can do this via a form at their website (they call nameservers "hosts"). With most other registrars, you have to call their customer support and ask how to do it.

Every nameserver needs to have a different IP#, so you can't do this unless you have multiple IP#s pointing to your computer. It doesn't matter domain name the IP# is used for, you can still use it for a name-server at a different domain.

Is there a way around this?

If you've done the above, then it's possible (though I wouldn't think so) that .com, .net, and .org domains need .com, .net, and .org nameservers.
