our servers are using a db (mysql) for everything (except for

so, if this sounds bad or expensive, it's your opinion, but not mine...
First of all, you don't indicate at all in your post how this enables you
to the same username by domain. I imagine you do this by creating a
username of something like:
joe.domainname
which is doable, of course. I believe it's also doable with the latest Red
Hat linux out of the box.
But at least one part of it sounds bad: with usernames > 20 chars and the
actual "user" part of the name at eight characters there's just no way you
can see individual user ownership in directory listings. Or have you
reformatted those as well? Or do you not use a user-ownership model?
Expensive? No. Even if your use of mySQL requires you pay for it, it's
still a fair price.
Will it break the Cobalt web-based gui interface? Most likely.
Is it beyond the expertise and comfort levels of most RaQers on this
list? Absolutely.
