I'm an open source junkie, and can only suggest downloading a free
shopping cart solution built in PHP (preferred) or perl. Take a look at
freshmeat.net or px.sklar.com or others. My one experience with a
commercial ecommerce package was some 2 years ago, a US$10k program
called WebCatalog that runs on a Mac webserver. We fought with it for 3
weeks and got it sort of working. Later, our in-house developers made a
functional PHP shopping cart from scratch in a weekend.
