The answer is in the headers....

AOL modifies gif files when it stores them in it's cache so it can send smaller
ones to it's users, this distorts the images, in the aol client software is an option 'disable compressed graphics'   check this and you will get the original
graphics...clear the browser cache also....

better yet, dump AOL ;0
