Simple answer ... No, ssh is secure SHELL - i.e. a replacement for
telnet that, instead of using cleartext transmission, travels over an
encrypted SSL tunnel.
Saying that, ssh *can* be used to set-up a secure tunnel to other ports
for use by other applications. For instance, I have port 8081 on my
local machine set up to SSL (secure Socket layer) tunnel through to port
81 on the RaQ. So, when I want to use the admin UI, I point my browser
at localhost:8081.
All in all, going by what you were saying, you'd be better off with a
'proper' https (http over SSL) setup.

Yes, ssh does not work with a standard telnet client. If you went for
the https option, most modern web browsers will do.
