[cobalt-users] Auto-running programs

I own a channel on IRC which serves many people. I have my IRC client set up
with a script to generate a text response to a particular query when asked
by one of the users in the channel.

I can successfully log in to IRC from a telnet session using my IRC client.
No problems there at all.

What I want to know is if there a linux command/program available that will
run my IRC client continuously whether I'm "at the helm" or not? To take it
one step further, something that would also have the ability to let me kill
the program at a moment's notice? As I said, I have to telnet in to access
my server and as soon as I kill the session, the program is killed as well.

I'm failrly new to Linux and have had some mimimal experience in the past.
Learning more everyday but this is one in which I'm uneducated in. Any
assistance would be much appreciated.
