Depends on what you have to check, what type of output you are expect to 
give , etc.

I would look at a project of this type like this:

o What type of information do I need?
  what am I suppose to check

o What type of output do I need?
  what info to provide to people

Once you write something that does that, I suggest doing the following:

man 5 crontab
