Before you send mail to the list, USE THE ARCHIVE! Search, a good portion of the problems you have when you are new to these products already have a well
documented solution in the archives. One thing I have learned as an owner of a "linux box" is you MUST become self-reliant to certain degree. That
doesn't mean you have to know everything, just become adept at finding useful information.

If you use the list as a last resort and begin finding the fixes and implementing them on your own, you will be glad you did. None of us have all the
answers, so of course, ask the list when you can't figure it out.
